These figures represent adult literacy programmes with literacy teachers and students. The number of programmes, teachers and students above, do not represent the figures we have in PNG today. We have more than what has been collected and recorded here.
Literacy Teachers
Number of Male Teachers= 1, 866
Number of Female Teachers= 1,780
Total number of Teachers= 3,646
These teachers are selected by the committee, elders and village councilors of the community. Most of them have completed grade 10 level; whilst others are grades 11, 12 and former teachers of primary and community schools.

- Functional literacy level
Language Used in Literacy Programmes
The language the students used in their literacy programmes are English, Tokpisin, Motu or Tokples/vernacular, depending on the situation or environment they are located. In urban settlements, the local community can either choose English or Tokpisin. In the villages, the community had to use the Tokples/vernacular languages.These languages used are:
